FAQ
What are headless solutions?
Headless solutions separate the frontend presentation layer of an application from its backend functionality. In practice, this means the user interface is decoupled from the logic, data, and business capabilities behind it. Content and product data live in a backend database or API, while the frontend is fully responsible for how that information is presented to users. This architecture makes applications easier to scale and maintain, and allows developers to use any frontend technology without being locked into a specific backend.
What is Wix Headless?
Wix Headless lets developers use Wix’s full set of business solutions (Stores, Bookings, Events, CMS, Payments and more) through APIs, while managing everything from a single Business Manager dashboard.
You build and own the frontend code. Wix becomes the unified backend for commerce, scheduling, content and operations. Products are configured in the dashboard and consumed everywhere via APIs, keeping business logic, data and permissions centralized.
You can deploy via Wix-managed headless, which means Wix hosts and operates the project for you, or via self-managed headless, which lets you host the frontend anywhere and connect via APIs.
What is the difference between Wix-managed headless and self-managed headless?
Wix-managed headless means Wix hosts your project and provides builds, deployments, global CDN, SSL, automatic scaling, environment configuration and more. You can still run local dev, connect GitHub, and deploy through CLI even when the production hosting is on Wix.
Self‑managed headless means you host and deploy the frontend yourself (with Vercel, Netlify, AWS, etc.), while using Wix APIs to connect your frontend to your Wix business data and logic.
Is Wix Headless free?
While you can start coding with Wix’s SDK for free, upgrading to a Premium Plan will unlock additional benefits that are essential to business operations. These include receiving payments, accessing in-depth analytics, connecting a custom domain and other advanced features. To make the most of your experience, we recommend upgrading to a Premium Plan.
Which tech stacks can I use with Wix Headless?
Wix-managed headless: Projects are based on the Astro web framework. You can build components in frameworks like React, Vue, Svelte, Solid and more within Astro.
Self-managed Headless: You host your frontend anywhere. You can use any frontend technology or mobile stack that calls Wix APIs.
How can I start a Wix Headless project?
You can start your Wix Headless project in a few different ways:
AI: Use a built-in AI builder to generate a complete and tailored UI based on the description you provide.
Wix CLI: Use the Wix CLI—with or without a template—to create a minimal, locally developed Wix-hosted project.
Self-managed: Start a self-managed project using Wix’s Business Manager and robust APIs while keeping full control over hosting and deployment.
Both the AI and CLI options create Wix-managed headless projects, though you can still develop locally even when production hosting is on Wix. Self-managed projects are hosted outside of Wix.
What kinds of solutions does Wix Headless offer?
Wix Headless offers a range of solutions including eCommerce, content management, booking and scheduling, events and ticketing, pricing plans and more.
